How to guide superusers to leverage the best of the application for competency management
1
(optional) Create category via Settings › Skills & Training › Skill categories
Skill categories will be seen in the skill matrix as the headers of columns, will give courses in the catalogue a color
2
(optional) Create proficiency scales via Settings › Skills & Training › Proficiency scales categories
A skill can have different maturity levels, called proficiency scales. The selected proficiency scale will split the skill in different maturity levels, each with its own course. This is visualised in the skill matrix via the various pie charts.
3
(mandatory) Create a skill via Settings › Skills & Training › Skills
This is the basis of the skill management system. A skill will be seen in the skill matrix as the columns, proficiency scales will be the basis of the value. The category is shown over multiple skills.
4
(mandatory) Training materials - Create a course linked to the skill
When no proficiency scale was selected, the course is directly linked to the skill. No subselection is required. Creating a course can be done from the skill page, using the + button in the Courses frame.
When a proficieny level is selected, courses need to be created for all of the levels. In the example below, this implies 3 courses must exist.
One cannot link an existing course to a skill from this page. To do that, one needs to open the courses and select the skill (and corresponding competency level) from the course page via Training › Courses
5
(mandatory) Training qualification - Set up course content
Employees with to rights to edit courses, can go to the admin view of a course and start adding course content (document, e-learning, classroom trainings,...)
It is not mandatory to proceed, but without training qualification criteria (course content), everyone enrolled will be qualified automatically

(optional) Group skills in skill blocks via Settings › Skills & Training › Skill blocks
Group skills in a skill block for easier linkage of similar skills to multiple employees in the future
7
(optional) Define generic training needs - Create profiles via Settings › Skills & Training › Profiles
Set up profiles, as the template to push skills to various employees. The most simple method is to link skills (and corresponding proficiency levels) either as optional or required skills to that profile.
8
(mandatory) Link training needs to employees - Create positions via Training › Positions › Create position
One can create a position and start linking profiles. When profiles exists, this can be done directly during creation. If no profiles exist, they can be created using the + button:
Employees can be linked using the "assign position" button
